You can sell a home yourself without the use of a real estate agent. From those who have tried, we’ll discuss the #1 For Sale By Owner Mistake and the top three things that they complain about in the whole process. If you choice to try For Sale By Owner, this is the one mistake you can’t make.

According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) there are three main problems that For Sale By Owners (FSBO) have:

1. Not getting the price they had hoped for.

2. It took much longer to sale than expected.

3. The effort to market the property and get potential buyers to check it out.

All 3 of these problems are all REALLY caused by one major For Sale By Owner Mistake. I’ll discuss it in this video.

For Sale By Owners almost always price their homes too high. They have an emotional attachement to the property and think it is worth more money than it truly is. Hiring a Realtor helps bring an outside perspective in and the real estate agents knowledge of the neighborhood helps them price the property properly.

If a property is priced too high, nobody wants to come see it. If it’s priced too low then you leave money on the table but if you start too high, you’ll eventually have to lower the price and then, people want to pay even less than that because they think there is something wrong with the house or that the seller is now desperate to sell.

#1 For Sale By Owner Mistake

Besides making a mistake on pricing the home, FSBOs usually don’t know how to market the home, have to schedule the showings, figure out the paperwork, make legal decisions and negotiate for themselves. Most For Sale By Owners that I have talked to say that they will never do it again. If you’re considering it, I’m happy to talk to you about it.
